Bloody Mary Sliders

I think it’s time to bring back the Sloppy Joe. They aren’t getting any love and are often seen as a cheap alternative to burgers. But they are so tasty and when you’re cooking for a group, they are so much easier to put together. I’ll give you a couple of arguments to prove my point:

  1. No condiments required since the meat is already bathing in delicious sauce
  2. No need to stress about overcooked or undercooked patties
  3. They are done in under 30 minutes and can be prepared ahead of time

I rest my case. Try these and you will thank me. Just don’t forget the napkins, they can be messy ๐Ÿ˜›

INGREDIENTS

Makes about 12 sliders or 6 regular sandwiches:

  • 1/2 pound of lean ground beef
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 celery sticks, diced
  • 1 can of tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup of mustard*
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • 1/2 tsp of paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional additions: 1 tsp of tabasco sauce, 1/2 tsp of prepared horseradish
  • 8 mini-buns
  • Grilled onions & gerkins pickles as garnish

*I used Smoked Apple Joe Beef mustard, it gives it a whole other layer of flavour!

MAKING IT

Heat a pan to medium and drizzle some olive oil in the bottom. Start by cooking your beef together with the garlic, onion and celery. When the meat is brown, add all the other ingredients. Lower the heat and let simmer uncovered until the sauce thickens. You want it to hold together or else it will spill out of the buns. Assemble your sliders and serve warm.
